Hi.

Welcome to my blog. Hope you have a nice stay!

ICEberg right ahead...

At least that is what this New York Winter feels like. Freezing temps, windy air and dryness. My skin is crying for a miracle! Between being pregnant and this Winter I was beginning to wonder if my skin could possibly recover. Alas, it can. There are a few components to helping retain moisture in your skin aside from the products you apply topically.

Some helpful Winter skincare tips:

  1. Drink at least a gallon of water a day. I am no stranger to the bathroom these days and I don’t mind if it means baby and I are staying hydrated. Hydration internally directly effects the oward appearance of our skin.

  2. Some like it hot! I know I do, my shower of course. While we want to enjoy a nice steaming hot shower, it isn’t always best for our skin. So turn the dial down and avoid scorching away the epidermis.

  3. Get a humidifer for your bedroom. Do you wake up feeling dry? Stuffy nose? Adding moisture to the air will help replenish moisture to your skin while you sleep.

  4. Moisturize. That is why you’re here, I know. You want all the details on the topical skincare routine. It is super important to moisturize your face well and your body.

Here is my line up of current products:

Face:

  • Peter Thomas Roth Cloud Cream Cleanser

  • Eminence Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant (lactic acid)

  • Mario Badescu Lavender, Camomille, Aloe Spray

  • Belif- moisturizing eye bomb, true cream aqua bomb, true cream moisturizing bomb & aqua bomb sleeping mask

  • The Ordinary - hyaluronic acid serum

Body:

  • Bio oil

  • Palmers stretch mark cream

  • Trader Joes coconut body butter

Ingredient Benefits:

  • Hyaluronic Acid is a must for hydration and should be in your product line up. As body collagen declines, the appearance of wrinkles and discoloration become more visible. Maximizing and protecting collagen levels will keep skin supple. Hyaluronic acid keeps collagen synthesis up, as well as retains skin moisture, which contributes with anti-aging benefits to the skin.

  • Lactic acid a pregnancy safe ingredient for exfoliating. I love the Eminence dermafoliant because it is gentle and doesn’t dry me out. However, I do not exfoliate more than 1-2 times a week right now. Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid used in over-the-counter skin care products and professional treatments. It's naturally found in milk. If you enjoy taking baths then I would suggest taking a nice milk bath. So many recipes on Pinterest. Lactic acid is used to exfoliate the skin, lighten dark spots, and improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

“Lactic acid exfoliates the skin. It helps the older, dull cells on the skin's surface to slough away by dissolving the bonds that hold them together. Lactic acid speeds up cell turnover and stimulates cell renewal.

That's what's happening on the cellular level. But what you'll see is a brighter complexion, as well as smoother and softer skin.

All alpha hydroxy acids exfoliate and improve skin texture, but lactic acid has an extra benefit you won't get from its AHA cousins. Lactic acid helps improve the skin's natural moisture factor, or the way the skin keeps itself hydrated. Basically, lactic acid helps to keep the skin moisturized and feeling less dry.”

With use of lactic acid you may have increased sensitivity to the sun. So be sure that you’re applying your SPF. Also, if you’re using retinol products there is no need to double up! So… be mindful of your line up.

With all that said, I must stress that just because this line up is working for me doesn’t mean it will be the same for you. All skin is not created equal. I always suggest getting a professional assessment of your skin with a liscensed esthetician. I personally use and love Jackyln Rose Skincare (www.jacklynrose.com). She is located in Orange County NY & St Pete, FL.

I will link the products below, just click on the photos.
